why this works:  very slim jeans balance out the square-cut coat, although starting with reasonably broad shoulders also helps.  the purple sweater and plaid shirt provide pops of color and pattern, and the scarf adds a touch of softness and complexity to an otherwise very structured layer-over-layer look.  no idea what boots or belt he’s wearing, but might I suggest very dark, almost-black brown to give this appropriately cool rainy day outfit just a hint of warmth?
